Philip Reinagle Collection

Philip Reinagle (1749-1833) was an English painter and engraver. He was born in London, the son of a Dutch father and an English mother. He studied under Francis Hayman, and later with Benjamin West at the Royal Academy Schools. His works were mainly landscapes, although he also painted portraits and animal studies. He became well known for his bird paintings, which were popular with collectors of the time. Reinagle's work was exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1773 to 1824, as well as at other venues throughout England. His work is held in many public collections including the British Museum and Tate Britain in London.
