Edwin Longsden Long (1829-1891) was a British painter and sculptor who specialized in historical and biblical scenes. He was born in Bath, England and studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. His works were exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1855 to 1890, as well as other venues throughout Europe. He is best known for his large-scale painting "The Babylonian Marriage Market" (1875), which depicted a scene from the Old Testament book of Genesis. He also created several sculptures, including "The Death of Cleopatra" (1876). His work was highly praised by critics for its attention to detail and realism. Long received numerous awards during his lifetime, including a knighthood from Queen Victoria in 1886 for services to art.
