872742 Bartholomew Fair, London: The famous Dutch woman (engraving) by Laroon, Marcellus the Elder (1653-1702); Private Collection; (add.info.: Mrs Cornelius Saftry who staged plays and rope dancing featuring "The famous Dutch woman's companies of rope dancers" in London's Bartholomew Fair for several decades from 1677; performed in androgynous costume, worn by female acrobats well into the eighteenth century. Two prints of 1687 by Marcellus Laroon depict her performing acrobatics on the slack and tightrope; she wears a ruffled Holland shirt with frilled cuffs and a bow at the neck; sheer tights and men's trunk hose trimmed with fur.); English, out of copyright
