Edward Killingworth Johnson Collection

Edward Killingworth Johnson (1842-1901) was an English painter and etcher of landscapes, marine scenes, and architectural subjects. He was born in London and studied at the Royal Academy Schools. Johnson exhibited his work at the Royal Academy from 1868 to 1901, as well as at other venues such as the Grosvenor Gallery and the New Gallery. His works were praised for their subtlety of coloration, delicate handling of light and shade, and poetic feeling for atmosphere. Johnson also produced a number of etchings which were highly regarded by contemporary critics. He died in London in 1901 after a long illness. His works can be found in many public collections including those of the Victoria & Albert Museum, British Museum, National Portrait Gallery, Tate Britain, Manchester Art Gallery among others.
