XOS1448793 Saint Martin Sharing his Coat with a Beggar, c.1737 (oil on canvas) by Galloche, Louis (1670-1761); 39.7x26.4 cm; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA, USA; (add.info.: Martin was a 4th century Roman soldier stationed in Gaul who met a ragged beggar at the gates of Amiens and used his sword to cut his military cloak in half to share. He dreamed of Jesus wearing the half-cloak he had given away and the part kept by himself became the famous relic preserved at the Marmoutier Abbey near Tours, where he later became bishop.
