John Falter Collection

John Falter is an American artist, illustrator, and muralist from Nebraska. He is best known for his work in the Saturday Evening Post and other publications. He was born in Plattsmouth, Nebraska in 1910 and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His career began as a staff artist at The Saturday Evening Post where he worked for over 30 years. During this time he created hundreds of covers, illustrations and murals for the magazine as well as many other publications including Collier's Magazine, Look Magazine, McCall's Magazine and Ladies Home Journal. After leaving The Saturday Evening Post he went on to create murals for churches throughout the United States before retiring in 1989. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world including a retrospective at the Smithsonian Institute's National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C., which honored his life's work with a major exhibition titled “John Falter: An American Illustrator” (2009).
