Justus van Egmont Collection

Justus van Egmont was a Dutch painter and draftsman of the 16th century who is best known for his landscapes and genre scenes. He was born in Leiden, Netherlands, in 1590. His father was an artist and he received his first artistic training from him. He moved to Antwerp in 1611 where he became a master of the Guild of St Luke in 1613. In Antwerp, he worked with Peter Paul Rubens on several projects including decorations for the Joyous Entry into Antwerp of Archduke Albert and Isabella Clara Eugenia in 1615. He also painted religious works as well as portraits, still lifes, hunting scenes, animal pieces and landscapes with figures. Van Egmont's style is characterized by its bright colors and strong brushstrokes which give his works a vividness that has made them popular among collectors today.
