Saint Dunstan Collection

Saint Dunstan (c. 909–988) was an English Benedictine monk, abbot, and Bishop of London who served as Archbishop of Canterbury from 960 to 988. He is remembered for his many reforms in the Church and for his patronage of the arts. He was a skilled metalworker and goldsmith, creating works such as the famous Dunstan Cross which is still used today in some churches. He also wrote music, composed liturgical dramas, and encouraged the production of illuminated manuscripts. His reforms included introducing new monastic orders to England such as Cluniacs and Cistercians; reforming monasteries; establishing schools; encouraging education among clergy; improving church services; promoting pilgrimage sites; reforming canon law; and protecting religious freedom. His legacy lives on through his artworks which are still admired today for their beauty and craftsmanship.
