Jean-Germain Drouais Collection

Jean-Germain Drouais was a French painter of the Rococo period. He was born in Paris in 1763 and studied under his father, Francois-Hubert Drouais, and then at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. His works were mainly portraits but he also painted genre scenes and religious paintings. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1791 to 1824, receiving a gold medal in 1810 for his painting 'The Education of Achilles'. He was appointed professor at the Academy in 1815, where he taught until his death in 1824. His works are characterized by their delicate brushwork and subtle use of color to create an atmosphere of gracefulness and elegance that is typical of Rococo art.
