Mathieu Ignace van Bree (1773-1839) was a Belgian painter and draughtsman who is best known for his neoclassical style of painting. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he was influenced by the works of Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony van Dyck. His style was heavily influenced by French neoclassicism, which he combined with elements from Dutch art. He painted many portraits and historical scenes, as well as landscapes and genre scenes.
