Augustus Jules Bouvier was a French painter and sculptor who lived in the 19th century. He was born in 1825 in Paris and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he became a student of François-Joseph Duret. Bouvier's work is characterized by its bold colors, strong lines, and classical themes. He is best known for his large-scale religious paintings such as The Last Supper (1864), which depicts Jesus Christ surrounded by his apostles at the Last Supper. His other works include sculptures of historical figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Louis XIV, and Marie Antoinette. He also created several portraits of prominent figures from French society including Empress Eugénie de Montijo and King Louis Philippe I. Bouvier's work has been exhibited widely throughout France and abroad, including at the Salon de Paris from 1851 to 1865.
