At the time, Sagna was a rising star in the Arsenal squad, having joined the Gunners from Auxerre in the summer of 2007. The French international right-back quickly established himself as a regular in the Arsenal defense, making 36 appearances in all competitions during the 2008-09 season. Meanwhile, St Aimie was a promising young player at Barnet, having come through the ranks at the Hertfordshire club. The defender made his professional debut for Barnet in 2006, and went on to make over 100 appearances for the club before moving on to other teams. This pre-season friendly was an important opportunity for both players to gain valuable match experience ahead of the new season. Arsenal went on to win the game 2-1, with goals from Eduardo and Robin van Persie securing the victory.
