occurs in woodland from the Kimberley Region in Western Australia east to Cape York and south along the eastern coast to South Australia.
Cacatua galerita
Beak-and-Feather Disease is a viral infection caused by a circovirus (Circoviridae) and affects many species of parrots and cockatoos. It is transmitted by direct contact and inhalation of aerosols. No known cure, but some birds may develop immunity. Causes loss of, or pulling-out of feathers, and deformities of the beak, and occasionally feet. /Circovirus - attacks feather follicles causing ultimate inability to produce feathers; attacks beak and feet growth cells causing malformity and over-enlargement.

Two Brave Cockatoos - Defying the Odds and Finding Friendship in Adversity

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this heartwarming print captured by Eric Lindgren, we witness a remarkable bond between two Sulphur-crested Cockatoos suffering from Psittacine Beak-and-Feather Disease (PBFD). These resilient birds have been shunned by their own species due to their condition, but instead of wallowing in loneliness, they have found solace in each other's company. Despite the challenges they face daily, these courageous cockatoos showcase the power of friendship and support. Their vibrant plumage may be affected by PBFD, causing feather loss and deformities in their beaks and feet, but it doesn't dampen their spirits or hinder their ability to form connections. This touching image serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, companionship can bring comfort and strength. As they perch side by side on a branch against a backdrop of Australian woodland stretching from Western Australia to South Australia, these two cockatoos exemplify resilience and determination. Eric Lindgren's photograph not only captures a beautiful moment between these extraordinary birds but also raises awareness about PBFD—a viral infection affecting parrots and cockatoos worldwide. Let us celebrate the indomitable spirit of these feathery friends who refuse to let circumstances define them.
