This polar bear thought it had found the perfect spot to chill out on Akpatok Island, but little did it know that the ice flow would melt away, leaving it stranded for the season. Looks like this furry friend will have to find some creative ways to beat the heat! With its fluffy white coat and adorable face, this lone polar bear named Nanuk (or Nanuuq in Inuit) has become quite the celebrity in Canada's Nunavut region. As the largest uninhabited island in Ungava Bay, Akpatok Island is known for its breathtaking Arctic landscapes and diverse wildlife. But who knew it could also turn into a temporary playground for our furry friends? Photographer Cindy Miller Hopkins captured this incredible moment back in 2006 when she stumbled upon Nanuk trying to navigate his way through the melting ice. With a mix of curiosity and concern etched on his face, he seems determined to make the best of his unexpected summer staycation.
