Antiochus, known for his military prowess and ambition, sought to expand his empire by reclaiming the rebellious Jewish territories in Palestine that had been lost during the previous reigns. The Seleucid army, a formidable force, advanced with an impressive display of military might. The centerpiece of this might was the use of elephants, which were a common tactical advantage in ancient warfare.
