Anne of Bohemia, also known as Anne of Bohemia and Anne of Sicily, was the daughter of King Wenceslaus IV of Bohemia and Elizabeth of Pomerania. Born in 1366, she was a queen consort of Richard II of England, the last monarch of the Plantagenet line. In this exquisite portrait, Anne is depicted in regal attire, wearing a richly embroidered robe adorned with fleurs-de-lis and other decorative motifs. Her hair is styled in intricate braids, and she wears a diadem on her head, signifying her royal status. The background is adorned with delicate foliage, adding to the sense of elegance and refinement. Anne's marriage to Richard II was arranged in 1382, when she was just 15 years old, and the union was intended to strengthen the political ties between England and Bohemia. The marriage was a happy one, and Anne is said to have been a beloved wife and mother. She gave birth to six children, four of whom survived to adulthood. Anne's life was not without tragedy, however. In 1394, she fell ill with plague while on a visit to Calais, and despite the best efforts of her physicians, she died on July 7, 1394, at the age of 28. Her death was a blow to Richard II, who was deeply mourned by his subjects. Anne was buried in Westminster Abbey, and her tomb is a testament to the enduring legacy of this remarkable queen.
