Slowworm Collection

Slowworms are a species of legless lizard found throughout Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia and can reach lengths of up to 40 cm (16 in) and have smooth scales that are usually grey or brown in color, and are nocturnal animals that feed on insects, spiders, snails, and other small invertebrates. They spend most of their time hiding beneath rocks or logs during the day and come out at night to hunt for food. During the winter months they hibernate underground in burrows or crevices where temperatures remain relatively constant and can live up to 20 years in captivity but their lifespan is much shorter in the wild due to predation by birds and other animals, and are protected by law in some countries due to their declining population numbers caused by habitat destruction and illegal collection for the pet trade.
