The New Supper Clubs - Murray's
The dance floor (top) and members and guests (bottom) at Murray's, in Beak Street, one of the new late opening supper clubs springing up around London on the eve of the First World War. The club was opened by Canadian Jack May in 1913 and in 1915, a sister club, Murray's River Club was opened in Maidenhead. It continued as a club until 1923 when it closed and reopened as Blanchard's. Date: 1914

Murrays Club opens at Maidenhead
Murrays River Club at fashionable Maidenhead, opened in 1915 as a sister club and alternative summer venue to the original Murrays club opened by Jack May in Beak Street, London in 1913. It was located in a Georgian house overlooking the river and was frequented by society types and personalities from the theatrical world. River trips were available early in the evening and the venue was notable for its illuminated dance floor. Some of the guests at the opening are featured here in The Tatler and include, clockwise from top left, Lady Edward Fitzgerald, Mr N Peacock, Lee White and Phyllis Monkman, Peggy Greenough, Jack May, Irene Hammond, Billie Carlton and finallym Kyrle Bellew and Miss Dorothy Langdon.
