Hoffmanni Collection

Hoffmanni is a species of soricidae mammal, commonly known as the Hoffman's shrew, and is found in parts of Europe and Asia, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China. This small mammal has a body length of up to 4 inches and weighs less than an ounce. Its fur is grayish-brown with white underparts and its tail is long and thin. It feeds on insects, worms, spiders and other small invertebrates that it finds in the soil or leaf litter. The Hoffman's shrew lives in open woodlands or grasslands where it can find plenty of food sources to sustain itself. It typically hides under logs or rocks during the day but becomes active at night when it searches for food. Its population numbers are stable but threatened by habitat loss due to human activities such as logging and agricultural expansion.
