Indian Rhinoceros Collection

The Indian Rhinoceros, also known as the Greater One-horned Rhinoceros, is a species of rhinoceros native to the Indian subcontinent, and is one of five extant rhino species and is the largest animal in its range, single horn on its snout and thick grey skin with folds that give it an armor-like appearance. It stands at about 1.8 meters tall at the shoulder and can weigh up to 2,000 kilograms. Its diet consists mainly of grasses, leaves, fruits, and aquatic plants found in marshy areas near rivers or lakes. The Indian Rhinoceros is listed as vulnerable by IUCN due to habitat loss caused by human encroachment on its natural range as well as poaching for its horn which is highly valued in traditional Chinese medicine. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this species from extinction through habitat protection and anti-poaching measures such as increased surveillance and law enforcement activities.
