Koala Collection

Koalas are marsupials native to Australia and are the only species in the family Phascolarctidae. They have a stout, tailless body and large head with round, fluffy ears and a distinctive black nose. Koalas have thick, grey-brown fur that helps them blend into their environment. They feed mainly on eucalyptus leaves which provide little nutrition but they can eat up to 500g of leaves per day. Koalas sleep for up to 20 hours a day and spend most of their time in trees, where they rest during the heat of the day, and are solitary animals who mark their territory with scent glands located on their chest and back legs. Koalas live for an average of 13 years in the wild but can survive up to 20 years in captivity. Due to habitat destruction, climate change and disease outbreaks, koala populations have declined significantly over recent decades making them vulnerable to extinction if conservation efforts are not implemented soon.
