Striped Skunk Collection

Striped skunks (Mephitidae) are small mammals found throughout North America. They have a distinctive black and white fur pattern, with two white stripes running down their back from head to tail, and are omnivorous, eating both plants and animals. They prefer to eat insects, eggs, fruits, nuts, and small vertebrates such as mice and frogs. Skunks use their powerful scent glands to defend themselves against predators; when threatened they will raise their tail in the air and spray a foul-smelling liquid at the predator and can also climb trees and swim well. They live in dens or burrows that they dig themselves or take over from other animals such as foxes or badgers. Skunks mate between February and April each year; females give birth to litters of four to eight kits in May or June after a gestation period of about nine weeks.
