Manatee Collection

Manatees are large aquatic mammals that live in warm coastal waters and rivers, and are related to elephants, and have a large, rounded body with two flippers and a flat tail and can grow up to 13 feet long and weigh up to 1,300 pounds, and are herbivores, eating mostly sea grasses and other aquatic plants. Manatees have poor eyesight but an excellent sense of touch. They communicate through sound waves that travel through the water, and are endangered due to habitat loss, boat collisions, fishing gear entanglement, pollution and disease outbreaks. Conservation efforts include protecting manatee habitats from development as well as educating boaters about how to avoid hitting them in the water. With increased awareness of their plight, manatee populations may be able to recover in the future if given proper protection from human activities that threaten their survival.
