The Eastern Cottontail (Leporidae) is a species of mammal found in North America, and is a medium-sized rabbit, typically measuring between 15 and 20 inches in length and weighing 2 to 4 pounds. The fur of the Eastern Cottontail is reddish-brown on its back, with white fur on its underside and around its neck. Its ears are long and rounded, with white fur inside. The tail has a distinctive white cottontail shape that gives the animal its name. The Eastern Cottontail feeds mainly on grasses, clover, weeds, bark, twigs and other vegetation found in fields or wooded areas, and are active during the day but may also be seen at night when they come out to feed or look for mates during breeding season which lasts from March through August each year.
