Leporidae Collection

Leporidae are a family of mammals that includes rabbits and hares, and are small to medium-sized animals, with long ears and short tails. They have powerful hind legs used for running, jumping, and digging burrows. Their fur is usually brown or gray in color, although some species may be white or black. Leporids feed on grasses, herbs, roots, fruits, and bark, and are found in many parts of the world including Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. Leporids can live up to 10 years in captivity but their lifespan is shorter in the wild due to predation from larger animals such as foxes and wolves. In general they reproduce quickly with females giving birth to litters of up to 8 young at a time. The young are born blind but develop quickly into independent adults within weeks of birth.
