Chacma Baboon Collection

The Chacma Baboon (Papio ursinus) is a species of Old World monkey belonging to the family Cercopithecidae, and is found throughout much of southern Africa, including Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe, large and robust primate with a long muzzle and prominent canine teeth. Its fur can range from black to brownish-gray in color with lighter patches on the face and chest and has long arms that are used for climbing trees as well as foraging on the ground. Its diet consists mainly of fruits, seeds, roots, insects and small vertebrates such as birds or rodents. The Chacma Baboon lives in large social groups that can number up to several hundred individuals which are led by an alpha male who maintains order within the group through dominance displays such as vocalizations or physical aggression towards other members of its troop.
