'Sketch of the Battle of Cawnpore', 1857, (1901). 'Fought on the 6th of December 1857 by the British Forces under the command of His Excellency Sir Colin Campbell, G.C.B. Commander in Chief in India, against the Insurgent Troops of the Gwalior Contingent and others under Brothers of Nana Sahib of Bithur. Map of the town of Cawnpore (modern-day Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh). The British under General Sir Colin Campbell defeated the Indian rebels commanded by Tantya Tope. The Quartermaster's Staff of the 1st Royal Munster Fusiliers, Rangoon, Burma, 1913. The Royal Munster Fusiliers was a regular infantry regiment of the British Army. Based largely in Ireland, they had their home depot in Tralee. They were originally formed in 1881 by the amalgamation of two regiments of the former East India Company. They served in India and in the World War I. Following the establishment of the independent Irish Free State in 1922, the five regiments that had their traditional recruiting grounds in the counties of the new state were disbanded.
