Tope is a species of fish found in the temperate waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, and is a member of the family Trachinidae, which includes other predatory fishes such as sea basses and wrasses. They have an elongated body with two dorsal fins, a large head, and large eyes, and are usually brown or grey in color with dark spots on their sides. They feed mainly on smaller fish and crustaceans, but can also eat mollusks and worms, and are grow up to 80 cm in length and weigh up to 8 kgs, and are highly valued for their meat, which is considered to be one of the best tasting among all fishes and can also popular among anglers due to their fighting spirit when hooked on a line.
