Hagfish Collection

Hagfish are primitive marine creatures that belong to the family Myxinidae, and are found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans, as well as some inland waters. They have a slimy body with no scales or fins, and they lack jaws and gills. Instead of breathing through gills, they use their skin to absorb oxygen from the water. They feed on dead or dying fish and invertebrates by burrowing into them with their sharp teeth-like structures called "tentacles" and are produce large amounts of slime when threatened which helps protect them from predators. Despite their primitive appearance, it can highly adapted for survival in the deep sea environment where they live.
