Bass Rock is a steep-sided volcanic rock, 107 metres (351 ft) at its highest point, and is home to a large colony of gannets.
Tantallon castle was built in the mid 14th century by William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas.

Nesting gannets on Helgoland, Germany

Northern Gannets (Sula bassana or Morus bassanus) on Helgoland. Males and females bond for life. Since 1991, the Northern Gannet inhabits the rocky cliffs of Helgoland, a tiny island in the North Sea. The birds can be observed throughout the breeding season and display their behavior without feeling threatened by the visitors.
