Greater Rhea Collection

Greater Rhea is a large, flightless bird native to South America, and is the largest bird in the world after the ostrich and stands up to 4 feet tall. The Greater Rhea has long legs and a long neck, with a small head and beak. Its feathers are grayish-brown in color with white stripes on its wings and tail and has strong legs that allow it to run quickly over short distances, but it prefers to walk or stand still for most of its movement. The Greater Rhea feeds mainly on grasses, leaves, fruits, insects and small animals such as lizards or snakes. They live in open grasslands or savannas where they can find food easily, and are social birds that form groups of up to 30 individuals which help them protect themselves from predators such as foxes or jaguars by forming defensive circles around their young when threatened.
