Cape Weaver Collection

Cape Weaver is a species of weaver passerine bird found in South Africa, and is a small, stocky bird with a short tail and wings, and bright yellow plumage. The male has an orange-red head and breast, while the female has duller colors. They feed mainly on seeds, insects, and other invertebrates, and are social birds that live in large colonies of up to several hundred individuals. They build large nests made of grasses woven together with spider webs or other materials such as wool or hair. Breeding takes place during the summer months when the males display their bright plumage to attract mates, and are common throughout South Africa but are declining due to habitat loss and degradation caused by human activities such as agriculture, urbanization, and mining operations. Conservation efforts are being made to protect this species from further decline.
