Orchard Oriole Collection

The Orchard Oriole (Icterus spurius) is a species of passerine bird in the family Icteridae, and is native to North America, where it can be found in open woodlands, orchards, and other habitats, black head and back with a bright orange-red chest and belly. Its wings are black with white wing bars and its tail is long and pointed. Males are slightly larger than females. They feed on insects, fruits, nectar, and some seeds. During breeding season they build cup-shaped nests of grasses lined with animal hair or feathers in trees or shrubs near water sources such as streams or ponds. The female lays 3 to 5 eggs which hatch after 12 days of incubation by both parents. The young leave the nest after about two weeks but remain dependent on their parents for another few weeks before becoming independent adults.
