Asian Paradise Flycatcher Collection

The Asian Paradise Flycatcher (Terpsiphone paradisi) is a species of passerine bird in the family Monarchidae, and is native to tropical and subtropical Asia, from India east to Indonesia, and south to Sri Lanka. The adult male has a long tail with white outer feathers, black central feathers and chestnut tips. The head is black with a white supercilium, while the underparts are white. Females are similar but lack the long tail streamers and have brown upperparts instead of black. They feed mainly on insects caught in flight or taken from foliage or bark, but also take some fruit. They nest in trees or shrubs near water bodies such as rivers or streams, laying 2-3 eggs per clutch which hatch after 12-14 days of incubation by both parents. These birds are threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and other human activities such as agricultural expansion and urbanization.
