American Flamingo Collection

The American Flamingo is a species of large wading bird found in the Caribbean, Central and South America, and is the only flamingo species native to North America, long neck, pink feathers, and black-tipped wings. Its legs are long and pinkish-white in color and has a curved bill with a black tip and feeds mainly on small invertebrates such as shrimp, mollusks, insects, and crustaceans. They are be seen in shallow lagoons or mudflats where it uses its bill to filter food from the water or mud. In addition to its diet of small invertebrates it also eats algae which gives its feathers their bright pink coloration. The American Flamingo is an important part of many ecosystems as it helps control populations of aquatic organisms that could otherwise become pests if left unchecked.
