Golden Eagle Collection

The Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is a large bird of prey belonging to the Accipitridae family in the Accipitriformes order, and is found throughout much of the Northern Hemisphere, including North America, Europe, and Asia, wingspan of up to 7 feet and can weigh up to 14 pounds. Its plumage is dark brown with golden-brown feathers on its head and neck. The Golden Eagle hunts by soaring high above its prey and then diving down at speeds of over 200 mph to capture it with its talons. It feeds mainly on small mammals such as rabbits, hares, marmots, ground squirrels, prairie dogs, and other rodents. It also eats birds such as grouse or ptarmigan when available. The Golden Eagle plays an important role in maintaining balance in ecosystems by controlling populations of smaller animals that could otherwise become too numerous for their habitat to support them adequately.
