Porpoise Collection

Porpoises are a type of cetacean aquatic mammal, related to whales and dolphins, and are found in all oceans around the world, usually in coastal waters and estuaries. Porpoises have a streamlined body shape with a blunt head and no dorsal fin. They range in size from 1-4 meters long and can weigh up to 160 kilograms. Porpoises feed mainly on fish, squid, octopus, crustaceans and other small marine animals. They communicate using clicks, whistles and other noises which they produce through their blowholes located on the top of their heads, and are social animals that live in groups or pods of up to 10 individuals but may also be solitary at times. They use echolocation to navigate their environment as well as for hunting prey underwater. Conservation efforts have been put into place for porpoise populations due to threats such as overfishing, pollution, boat collisions and entanglement in fishing gear or nets.
