An Afternoon at Home at a Modern Flying Club: A Scene of British Light Aviation in July 1930 This evocative photograph captures the essence of a quintessential British flying club scene on a sunny afternoon in July 1930. The image showcases a variety of representative types of British light aeroplanes gracefully soaring over a typical modern aerodrome. On the left, we see two Desoutter aircraft, one in orange and black, the colours of the National Flying Services, and the other in its original green and white livery. Immediately above the Desoutters, a Westland Widgeon monoplane flies, its green body glinting in the sunlight. The Widgeon is flying just above an Avro Avian from the Lancs Aero Club, its distinctive shape easily identifiable against the clear blue sky. Slightly above and to the right, a Blackburn Bluebird from the Yorks Aero Club can be seen flying beneath a Desoutter Sports Coupe. The Bluebird's sleek design and distinctive blue and white colours add a touch of elegance to the scene. At the top right of the photograph, a green and white biplane catches the eye - a Coupe Moth, adding a classic touch to the modern scene. Below the Coupe Moth, a yellow Gipsy Moth from the London Aeroplane Club and a blue and white Comber Swift can be seen flying in formation, completing this charming snapshot of a day at the flying club.
