12th 1797 1842 Dynasty I Ii Pharaoh Reigned Senusret

EDITORS COMMENTS
Amenemhet III, also known as Nymaatre, was the sixth pharaoh of the Twelfth Dynasty of Egypt, reigning from approximately 1842-1797 BC. He was the son of Senusret III and succeeded his father upon his death. Amenemhet III is considered one of the most successful and capable pharaohs of the Middle Kingdom period. During his reign, Egypt experienced a period of peace and prosperity. Amenemhet III is known for his military campaigns to protect Egypt's borders and expand its territory. He also undertook several building projects, including the construction of pyramids at Hawara and Dahshur. One of Amenemhet III's most notable achievements was the establishment of a new capital city, Itj-tawy, which was located in the western desert. This city was designed to be a fortified administrative and religious center, and it remained the capital of Egypt for over two centuries. Amenemhet III is depicted in this print wearing the White Crown of Upper Egypt, which symbolized his rule over the southern part of the kingdom. The crown is adorned with the falcon god Horus, who was the protector of pharaohs and the god of the sky. The pharaoh's name, Amenemhet, is inscribed in hieroglyphics above his head, along with the cartouche symbol of the throne. The print also shows Amenemhet III holding the Ankh, the symbol of life, in each hand. This represents his role as the living god-king and his ability to bestow life and prosperity on his people. The background of the print is decorated with intricate hieroglyphics and images of various gods and goddesses, reflecting the rich religious culture of ancient Egypt during the Middle Kingdom period. Overall, this print offers a glimpse into the power and grandeur of Amenemhet III, one of Egypt's most influential and successful pharaohs.
