Born in 1510, Pare began his medical career as an apprentice apothecary before studying under renowned surgeons of the time. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative surgical techniques and compassionate approach to patient care. Pare is shown here in a pointed, high-collared ruff, a fashionable neckwear popular during the late 16th century. His neatly trimmed beard frames his thoughtful expression, hinting at the wisdom gained from a lifetime of experience.
