China, Missionary Eugenio Massi - Converted Revolutionaries

A fascinating card, in three sections - first (top left), a portrait of the leader of the 10,000 revolutionaries who infested the central Chen-Si region, dressed in the uniform of a killed British general. Next (top right), we have S. Eugenio Massi (1875-1944), Apostolic Vicar of the Central Chen-Si (Scen-si), China and Missionary of the G. F. C. I, who pacified the revolutionaries. The lower section shows the six wives of the Revolutionary leader, also saved by the preaching of Eugenio Massi. Massi was killed during the bombing of Hankow (Hankou) in 1944. Date: circa 1920

Aerial view of the border between the Free State of Fiume and the district of Susak, Rijeka, Croatia. The Free State of Fiume was an independent free state which existed between 1920 and 1924. Its territory comprised the city of Fiume (now Rijeka) and rural areas to its north, with a corridor to its west connecting it to Italy. Date: circa 1922
