A worker places traffic cones on the road as the Mulholland bridge is closed over the 405 freeway in Los Angeles, California July 15, 2011. A 10-mile (16-km) stretch of the 405 freeway will be closed in both directions from July 15-18 for the partial demolition of the Mulholland bridge. The unprecedented 53-hour shutdown, expected to delay motorists for hours on alternate routes with ripple effects on about a dozen other major highways, will allow crews to demolish the bridge as part of a $1 billion freeway-widening project.
