Colour blindness test

Colour blindness test. Computer artwork of an Ishihara colour test card used to check for red- green colour blindness. The card is comprised of red and orange dots on a background of green dots. A person with normal vision will be able to see the word colour'. A person with red deficiency (protanopia) will only see the orange parts of the word, while those with green deficiency (deuteranopia) will only see the red parts of the word. Colour blindness is usually caused by an inherited genetic defect in the light-sensitive cells (cones) of the eye. Colour blindness can also be caused by optic injury or nerve diseases

HMS Trafalgar, a Trafalgar Class Attack Submarine, on transit to the fleet review in Portsmouth Dockyard, part of the Trafalgar 200 celebrations.
In this Trafalgar bicentennial year, the Royal Navy will be at the heart of the Sea Britain 2005 programme and will be marking the occasion with a series of major public events in June/July and October. The programme is entitled "Trafalgar 200 Past Glories, Future Horizons".
The summer events in Portsmouth began with the International Fleet Review in the Solent on 28th June. Some 35 nations attended, representing every continent. This was be the largest international gathering of vessels to be reviewed by Her Majesty the Queen and included warships, tall ships, merchant ships and yachts, over 160 vessels in total.
Her Majesty the Queen, The Lord High Admiral, reviewed The Fleet from HMS Endurance, witnessed a steam past, and sail past of 300 warships, tall ships and private yachts. There was also a contemporary element of informality to this event given by the focus on youth.

Artwork of Deep Impact impactor hitting comet

Deep Impact impactor. Image 2 of 3. Illustration of the Deep Impact impactor about to hit the surface of the nucleus of comet Tempel 1. The 500 kilogram impactor, travelling at 10 kilometres per second, will blast a large crater in the comet and eject material into space. Sensors on a related space probe (not seen) will monitor the explosion. The material inside the comet will be unchanged since the beginning of the solar system 5 billion years ago. This will provide information about the solar system's history. This NASA mission is due for launch in January 2004. For a sequence showing the impact, see images R250/139-141
