The Colossus Of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, straddles the harbour on the Greek island of Rhodes, circa 250 BC. Nerve synapse. Computer artwork of a nerve synapse. The synapse is a junction between a terminal (light blue) of one nerve cell (neurone) and another cell (green/purple). The receiving cell may either be another neurone or a muscle cell. Nerve signals reach the terminal and are carried across the synapse by chemical neurotransmitters in tiny spherical vesicles (orange)
