Stirling Castle, LMS poster, 1923-1947

Poster produced by London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail travel to Stirling in Scotland. The poster shows a procession of the Scottish garrison outside of Stirling Castle. The part of the castle shown on the right is the Great Hall, where Parliament and state ceremonies are held, while the rooms behind the barred windows are the Queen's Bedchamber and the King's Presence Chamber. Artwork by Christopher Clark (1875-1942), who was a military and historical painter and illustrator. Many of his designs for posters for LMS and London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) were re-issued by British Railways

The Britannia Tubular Bridge, LMS poster, 1923-1947

Poster produced for London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail services on the Irish Mail. The poster shows a view of the Irish Mail leaving the Britannia Tubular Bridge over the Menai Straits to Anglesey. The bridge opened in 1850 and was the work of the engineer Robert Stephenson (1803-1859). Artwork by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for several railway companies and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924

Greenisland Viaducts, LMS poster, 1923-1947

Poster produced for London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to advertise the Greenisland Loop Line in Country Atrim, Northern Ireland. The Greenisland Loop Line, which opened in 1934, was constructed to eliminate the necessity of trains to and from Belfast and stations in the North running via Greenisland. The line was approximately 3 miles in length. The Main Line Viaduct was the largest reinforced concrete viaduct in the British Isles. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson, who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for several railways and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924
