Mississippi Delta

Mississippi Delta. Coloured satellite image of the delta of the Mississippi River, USA. North is at top, the Gulf of Mexico is at lower left. Land is light blue, water is dark blue and sediment is green. A delta is an area of sedimentation (deposition) at the mouth of a river. Deltas are transitory and new channels are constantly forming while others become blocked. The main shipping channel of the Mississippi River runs from upper far left to bottom centre.
