EDITORS COMMENTS
This enchanting photograph captures a precious moment in the lives of Alice Liddell, her sisters Lorina and Edith, as they frolic in a garden, rekindling memories of their childhood adventures in the late 19th century. The sisters, who were the inspiration for Lewis Carroll's beloved character Alice in "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," are seen here in 1934, many years after the publication of the iconic novel. Their playful antics and infectious laughter convey a sense of joy and innocence that transcends time. Alice Liddell, born in 1852, was the eldest of thirteen children in a prominent Oxford family. Her father, Henry Liddell, was the Dean of Christ Church College at the time, and her mother, Lorina, was a talented artist. Carroll, a close friend of the family, often entertained the children with stories and games, which led to the creation of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." Edith Liddell, born in 1861, was the third eldest sister and the youngest of the three featured in this photograph. Lorina Liddell, born in 1856, was the second eldest. The sisters' childhood experiences with Carroll and the creation of Alice's adventures left a lasting impact on their lives, and this photograph serves as a poignant reminder of their shared history and the magical world they once inhabited.
