Born on June 6, 1872, in Darmstadt, Grand Duchy of Hesse, Alexandra was the second daughter of Grand Duke Ludwig IV and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom. At the age of 21, she married Emperor Nicholas II of Russia on November 26, 1894, in a grand ceremony held in the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. In this photograph, Alexandra is depicted wearing a stunning veil adorned with intricate lace patterns, symbolizing her new role as the Tsarina of Russia and the Consort of Emperor Nicholas II.
