Albert Thomas: Pioneering the French War Machine (1878-1932) This evocative black-and-white photograph captures the determined gaze of Albert Thomas, the visionary French statesman who served as the First Minister of Armament for the French Third Republic during World War I. Born in 1878, Thomas rose to prominence as an engineer and politician, championing the modernization of France's military arsenal. As the world teetered on the brink of war in 1914, Thomas' expertise in munitions and armaments proved invaluable. He quickly mobilized France's industrial might, overseeing the production of artillery, ammunition, and other essential military supplies.
