Albert Thomas: The Plump Minister for Munitions of France during the Great War (circa 1915) In this evocative photograph, Albert Thomas, a French socialist politician, is seen in his role as Minister for Munitions during the First World War. Born in 1878, Thomas began his political career as a journalist before joining the Socialist Party in 1902. He rose through the ranks of the party and was appointed Under Secretary for War in 1914.
