Swiss Valais black nose sheep, lambs, ewes at a petting farm in Burscough, Lancashire. Kirsty Slinger said she got a surprise just before Christmas when one of the Valais Blacknosed ewes unexpectedly gave birth at Windmill Animal Farm. One morning I went to check on them and this thing was on the ground. So now we have the first ever Valais lamb to be born in Lanchashire she added. The farm specialises in rearing rare breeds so the birth is great news for the visitors to the farm over the Christmas holidays Mr Matty Slinger bought 3 ewes and one ram of the Valais Blacknose breed, for his Animal Farm attraction, and now intends to breed them at his farm in Burscough near Preston. The sheep, which are only found in Switzerland, are well-known for their shaggy coats and spiral horns, but it is their distinctive, incredibly dark black hole faces - which look as if they have been Photoshopped to have all features removed - that draw much of the attention. Mr Slinger said: The sheep were bought from Chelmsford sheep market, after being imported from Switzerland. The have Swiss passports and are 1st time mothers. They are so docile and they just make you smile as soon as you see them, Mr Slinger, spent several weeks researching the breed, which is unique to the Valais region of Switzerland, before making the trip. They negotiated with several breeders, to select individuals to buy. Mr Slinger said he got a surprise just days before Christmas when one of the ewes unexpectedly gave birth. One morning I went to check on them and this thing was on the ground. he said. So now we have the first ever Valais lamb to be born in LANCASHIRE he added. © EnVogue_Photo
